The following are tidbits from my time as an Agroforestry Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, West Africa (Sept 2005-Nov 2007). Please laugh, leave comments, and drink a really good cup of coffee or a pint of microbrew on my behalf.
...bring crazy little furry red bugs that come out for a matter of days, populate the fields and paths [much like I imagine the corals correlating their annual reproductive season by releasing eggs and sperm all in one night to meet in the ocean] directly after the first rains, then vanish for the remainder of the year.

I was walking through the Boston Museum of Science waiting to see the Omnimax film Mystery of the Nile when my cell phone rang. The first word out of my uncle’s mouth was, “Senegal!” "What?!" “You’re going to Senegal!” "What?!" - I screamed into the quiet, thoughtful exhibit hall. My much awaited invitation had arrived in Portland, OR. Thus began my adventures as an Agroforestry Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, West Africa. I arrived in Sept 2005 and will leave in Nov 2007. ...I'm still waiting to see the beautiful scenery that brought tears to my eyes in Boston...
